Wild Europe

Prague - The Heart of Europe

Known for centuries as Zlatá Praha or Golden Prague, this fascinating city has been home to emperors and kings, artists, musicians and writers – the latter including Mozart, Dvorak and Kafka.

For 1100 years it was successively the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy, the first Czechoslovak Republic, the Nazi Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the Communist Republic of Czechoslovakia, and now the contemporary democratic Czech Republic.

Its skyline offers a fascinating array of architectural styles - baroque domes, Gothic spires and Art Nouveau décor amidst more modern buildings. This is matched by a myriad of museums, art galleries, shops, taverns and restaurants all set in a maize of streets and courtyards that dates back to medieval times.
